SOANE TIME | 2015
Soane Time installed at Pitzhanger Manor, showing a time warped CCTV transmission from today's Sir John Soane's Museum , as part of the first Wundercamera exhibition, 2013/2014. SOANE TIME was intitially made for the installation of the 'Now and Then' series in the historic Soane interiors of Pitzhanger Manor. The installation evoked the idea of a 'photographic return' of Soane's collection to his former country house. Soane designed and built Pitzhanger Manor and kept his collection there before moving to the house on Lincoln's Inn Fields - which is now preserved as Sir John Soane's Museum. 'Soane Time' was playing with a digital clock showing the real time at the top of the screen. The sound of the video is an ongoing clock ticking with chimes sounding the time every 15 minutes with the correct full hour chimes. The result was that the installed piece worked as a functioning, ticking, chiming clock. At the same time it seemed to show a somewhat warped live-CCTV connection to the time capsule that is Sir John Soane's Museum - the home of the collection now. The piece travelled with the 'Wundercamera' exhibitions and was installed at the other two venues, each time receiving new site-spefic qualities, such as the illusion of a trans-atlantic CCTV transmission when on show in Savannah, as part of 'Wundercamera, Savannah'.
